The University of Guelph has been delivering leading education in psychology and counselling since 1965. Since then, U of G experts have innovated and adapted the programming for society’s evolving needs, preparing well-rounded graduates ready to become registered mental health professionals.
Today, the Maplewoods Centre trains graduate students in three in-demand programs. Our students complete hundreds of clinical training hours with clients at Maplewoods and are closely supervised by a Clinical Psychologist or a Registered Psychotherapist.
Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology
The Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (CCAP) program is a six-year combined MA and PhD program that is accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA). The program prepares students to apply for registration as psychologists with provincial licensing boards.
Students in the CCAP program focus on the developmental paths of children and youth experiencing psychological disorders within the contexts of family, school and community. Students work with clients at Maplewoods and as part of off-campus practica.
Master of Psychotherapy
The Master of Psychotherapy (MP) is a two-year immersive clinical training program that integrates theory into practice through community-based experience. The program teaches strength-based and traditional psychotherapy perspectives that respect the diverse experiences and communities of both students and clients.
As a recognized education, training, and clinical experience program with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), the Master of Psychotherapy prepares our students to practice psychotherapy upon graduation.
Master of Relational and Family Therapy
The Master of Relational and Family Therapy (MRFT) is a two-year immersive clinical training program that trains students to work with a client in the context of their many relationships and broader social systems.
The MRFT is a recognized education, training and clinical experience program with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and is provisionally accredited by the Canadian Association for Couple and Family Therapy (CACFT) and prepares our students to practice psychotherapy upon graduation.
